Latrell Garson Sheridan, is the twin brother of Laila (he was born minutes before her), and the youngest son of Nathan and Sharon Sheridan. He is the owner of the Garson-Sheridan Ranch in Oklahoma, and has been riding horses, working cattle and taking care of the ranch since he was a teenager. Nathan would send Latrell off to Jack Garson’s ranch each summer to learn the land and cattle operations and become a real cowboy. It was in the West that Latrell has experienced his strongest bouts of racial discrimination but the backing of Jackson “Jack” Garson, a prominent businessman and rancher, helped people understand Latrell was his right hand man. Latrell is extremely close to his sister Laila and they visit each other as often as time permits. He’s working hard to get all of the family to visit the ranch but they are secretly scared he’ll put them to work or torture them with his tales of beef production. He has a very sharp mind and hasn’t found the right woman to share the ranch with him. Some women have set their sights on him but he knows being the wife of a ranch owner is more appealing than putting up with a rancher himself. Many days he’ll pull mud-caked spurs off his cowboy boots and throws them in the back of his pickup truck. He'll be splattered with dried mud and smell like horse sweat and manure, but the whole time he's grinning like a kid. The first time Laila saw her brother Latrell return from wrangling cattle she held her nose and bolted when he tried to give her a playful hug. It’s a life he loves but few New Jerseyans understand. |
