Luke Sheldon Walker is barely six years old, and the third child of Janet and Roland Walker. He has a strong love of vehicles. He wants to know how they work and why they work. He has a model car and truck collection that makes his father beam like a kid whenever he enters his room. He once made his father book a family trip to Washington DC by train instead of by car because he didn’t want to live another moment without having the AmTrak experience. He has a fierce independence since Janet and Roland share their time and attention with his other siblings. By the time Luke was born into the family, his parents were busy encouraging independence in their children. His demeanor is more even-tempered than his brothers and he possesses an overall attitude of “go along to get along”. I guess Luke has figured out (early on) that whining and complaining is not going to get him anywhere in his family, but admittedly, he has some difficult moments figuring out his place within the family dynamics. This confusion is causing him to try new things constantly and to frequently start activities but not want to finish them. Luke is sensitive to injustices and much less self-centered than Matt and John, which helps him maintain successful friendships. His parents are grateful that he is learning social skills that are extremely useful, not only within their household, but within his peer group. |
