Marina is the type of woman you would want to visit if you need a listening ear or a new twist on an old recipe. Since she was a young girl, she’s dreamed of taking over the family restaurant, ‘The Gator and The Peach’, titled from her parents’ nicknames. (Her mother is from Georgia, while her father was raised in near the swamps of South Florida.) She knows so much about southern cuisine, healthy eating, and nutrition that she’s totally revamped the GP restaurant menu and was rewarded co-ownership over her competitive brother, William. She’s a Preacher’s kid and as the oldest daughter she knows how to assert herself if she’s pushed too far. But overall, she’s an easygoing woman and can be seen as a bit sheltered because of her conservative Christian values. Marina lives vicariously through her best friends, Laila and Sofìa, because they have the confidence to make the fashion and life choices she would never make. In the love department, her friends think her man, David Shelton, shouldn’t be trusted because of their own history with men and his roaming eyes but Marina knows the true. David’s problem isn’t lust for other women; it’s his aversion to structured religion. He always bolts when Marina’s father pushes their family’s religious values to the forefront. There’s something about church that makes him uneasy so overtime Marina has learned to stifle some of her spiritual habits. She believes David just needs a slower introduction to the religious things and she’s ready to be his answered prayer to facilitate that happening. |
