Shyla Colt
Nominee for Outstanding Author in Interracial Romance 2014
Nomination Thanks
Wow, my head is still spinning from receiving the news. I am deeply honored, touched, and grateful to be considered for this magnificent award. Two years ago I was a woman with a dream, gathering up her nerves to take the plunge and follow the one dream embedded in her heart since childhood. It’s the reader’s support that makes this possible, and I am so appreciative of each and every one of you! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Mistaken Identity started as a story of the heart originally titled, Larped. I’m a fan girl/geek, Sci-fi, Cosplay, conventions, and inside jokes from movies and shows are a part of my daily life. So, when I sat down to write a piece that showed a personal side the readers hadn’t seen, an incredible “What if” story was born. Full of fangirl humor and a hero who wasn’t your typical alpha…. I almost shelved it. Thank God, for betas and faithful friends who never fail to give me a swift kick in the behind. I cracked myself opened and poured a large dose of “me” onto paper, and you accepted it with open arms. I can’t put into words how much that means to me, or how fulfilled my writer’s soul is.
I started writing romance to bring a new kind of heroine to the forefront. Strong and quirky with real life problems, and hang ups, I wanted them to allow the reader to see themselves and feel a deep kinship. Because I remembered reading romances in my youth and thinking …where are the women /girls who are like me. It’s my hope as you read one of my pieces you get to experience that connection, even if it’s just for a moment.
