The Annual AMB Ovation Awards (The Angie): Hundreds
of Reader Votes Cast
Finalist voting for the Angie Awards wrapped up in October, and though you’ll have to wait until show night to find out which nominees won, there is one result we want to share with you right now: The number of votes cast for their favorite author was in the high hundreds. Yes, that’s right for our reader-based awards that’s quite a feat. Next year we’re aiming for a thousand plus. Unlike traditional awards shows that carry more romance industry notoriety, like the RITA, we created a fan-based platform to increase awareness of the growth of the Multicultural/Interracial/African-American romance genres. These reader-based awards serve to remind writers their fans appreciate their efforts. “I was so exciting to see the author I nominated is actually up for an Angie Awards. I wanted to call all of my girls in my sorority to scream “Guess what? Our novel is in the finals!” said Kayla Thompson, a reader from Highland Park, NJ. “My friends and I told every one of our Facebook and Twitter friends to vote – to help our favorites win.” We are honored to give readers a place to acknowledge the authors that entertained them. And we hope to inspire all of the authors to continue to nurture their fan bases. |
What Happens If I Win
An Angie Award? First, you should scream, dance around, and tell yourself all of your hard work was worth it. We know what it takes to craft a story and finish a book. Second, you tell everyone that your readers not only loved your book but they nominated it for a reader-based award. That’s right, your readers are part of your street team and they want other readers to buy or borrow a copy of your work. You should feel pretty good about your readership growth. Third, if you haven’t submitted your nomination thanks for our website, please do so now. We’ll post it, so email us at [email protected] or use our contact form. (This is an important step because it’s the first place your readers can learn your thoughts about being nominated.) Listen, your readers keep asking us if you know about your nomination but we won’t overstep our boundaries and speak on your behalf. And Fourth, send in your mailing address (or the address of your publisher) so you can get your award. Once all of the winners have verified their contact information, the awards will be mailed out at the end of February. |
